New Topic ANNIE HERALD. DIED 1928, AT 11 DALHOUSIE PLACE. Posted by Neil
29 Mar 2010 :  2:05:16 PM
Hi,

I am looking for some information on the above. I am not a relative, but I have stumbled on her story, and am really interested in running down some finer detail about her.

She lived in Arbroath from about 1906, and died in 1928. Her life in Arbroath trail has grown very cold, but looking at the above house it is enormous, and quite unusual for Arbroath.
I wonder if anyone knows anything about this house, what is was used for in the 1920s. Was it built as a set of lodgings, or has it always been one house? Who built it, and when? or did it have some other purpose?

I would be grateful for any information, however small.

Thank you.

New Topic ANYONE KNOW A HEMSWORTH IN ARBROATH?? Posted by Smokie1756
27 Feb 2010 :  7:16:00 PM
My cousin has been researching the Fenton family history for years and I decided to look into my Granny Emma Fentons family history. Her maiden name was Hemsworth and she came from Leeds and we had always thought that my Grandad Peter Fenton had met her when he was serving in Black Watch prior to WW1 but we found out that they met before the war as we had thought they had met when my Grandad was being treated for wounds that hye received but they hadnt. When I entered the name Hemsworth into the Scottish Census 1901 we discovered that there were Hemsworths in Arbroath staying in Bridge St near my Grandads hoose. I dont think that they were related to my Granny as I traced them back to Edindurgh area. My Dad who is 81 had never heard the name apart from his Mums name.

Does anyone know of a Hemsworth in Arbroath past and present???

FAMILY MILITARY HISTORY RESEARCH HELP Posted by Derek
19 May 2010 :  01:13:31 AM
Regular Shoppie readers may well be aware of my interest in local history and genealogy. I am also interested in the combination of the two, genealogical military history.
I've researched my own families military past (still ongoing, however not local people) and wondered if other members would like help researching theirs?

Peculiarly it is far easier finding information on those who died in wars than it is on those who survived them. So if any shoppie patrons have family on local war memorials I have the two World War Roll of Honour books for Arbroath and can do lookups if required.

I can suggest routes of research for specific regiments, battles, related websites or info on researching POW's.

Cheers,
Derek.

HUTCHESON AND BUICK Posted by Councilorhutch
23 Apr 2010 :  3:17:21 PM
I recently found that my great grandfather was born in Arbroath in 1881. His mother was Jane Bowman Hutcheson (Buick). She was born in Arbroath around 1854 and died there in 1887. His father was John Ewen Hutcheson and he was born around the same time in Brechin. They lived at 35 Guthrie Port in 1881. If anyone knows of any Hutcheson, or Buick families still living in Arbroath that may be related, please let me know.

JAMES SCOTT, ARBROATH 1920S ONWARDS. Posted by Monkswalk
28 Apr 2010 :  01:01:08 AM
I am looking for any information on a James Scott who in 1926 lived in Ponderlaw Lane, Arbroath.
I do not know for certain if he worked for either Brigadier Oliver or his Sister as a driver.
Would anyone know if this is correct, or does anyone know who drove for this family around about 1925 - 1945.
He lived in number 21 Ponderlaw Lane - would anyone know who owned these houses then I wonder if it was Brigadier Oliver?
Any help would be gratefully received, many thanks.
