I have just learned of the passing of a once regular Shopper - Pensioner Busybody - aka Barbara Barnard, nee Bell. she told me last summer that she had been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and that she planned to return to Arbroath, when the time came, “in stoor form” (her very words) for her final resting place at the rose bush at the Flairs. Coincidentally, the day she told me about her illness was the day I messaged her to let her know I had written the Pom she had been urging me to write about The Flairs and other Arbroath landmarks where kids spent their summer holidays back in the day. I sent her a copy before anyone else read it, and she said it was better than medicine. I never received another word from her, and it was only tonight, when I went on her FB page to send her a message, I learned she had passed away. Such a shame, such a nice lady, although we only ever met at The Shoppie. RIP Barbara.

Sad to hear that Wilma. She was indeed one of the regulars in the good old days of The Shoppie.

Barbara’s sister replied to my message and told me Barbara dined at the end of July 2018 and was laid to rest on what would have been her 70th birthday, 14 August
