Where were the Boys Brigade/ Lifeboys Companies located in the town as that organisation was usually attached to a church .
The Scout Group was always at Keptie . The Girl Guides were possibly at that location too.
I don't know if there was a Scout /Girl Guide Group in the town early on in the 20th Century as the Scout War Memorial only lists casualties from the 1939 -1945 war.

He said that the BB's Company had a band and that they had rifles and did Drill but the BB's were getting too Regimented and the Rifle Drill was stopped .

The minister of that church waved us all off .

I later switched to the beavers, cubs then scouts at keptie.

exBraemarSenior Smokie USA507 Posts Last here: Today | Posted - 21 Apr 2011 : 11:53:04 PM Yes, Knox's Church had Lifeboys and a Boy's Brigade company. My hubby was in the Boy's Brigade there and that would have been in the early 50's. I lived beside Knox's and I remember watching them assembling for parades at the foot of Howard Street. |

I chanced upon an article in the old Glasgow Herald that mentions the opening of the old huts on Keptie Street. They were formally open on 4th of October 1930 by Jock Neish. The land was gifted by Mr F.F. MacDonald (whose name adorns the park next to the site) and they were erected at a cost of £700 which was raised by the people of Arbroath. It is stated that scouting had already been underway in Arbroath for the previous 21 years, so begun locally in 1909. No mention of where meetings were held though, a church is likely.
Derek.
