Hi,

I am looking for some information on the above. I am not a relative, but I have stumbled on her story, and am really interested in running down some finer detail about her.

She lived in Arbroath from about 1906, and died in 1928. Her life in Arbroath trail has grown very cold, but looking at the above house it is enormous, and quite unusual for Arbroath.
I wonder if anyone knows anything about this house, what is was used for in the 1920s. Was it built as a set of lodgings, or has it always been one house? Who built it, and when? or did it have some other purpose?

I would be grateful for any information, however small.

Thank you.

I don't know anything about this particular house, but I don't think any of the houses in Dalhousie Place would have been a lodging house. If Annie Herald was not the owner or tenant could she have been a maid in the house? The Valuation Rolls for Arbroath would have given you more information but unfortunately the years 1921 to 1960 have been lost. You could check the Arbroath Year Book at the library this may give some information. Good Hunting!

Thanks for that Marcol. There is something not quite right here, as, unless she was disinherited on her husband's death, she must have been a pretty wealthy woman.
I am not sure how deeply I wanted to get into this, but you have me thinking of chasing wills now!

Thanks again.

Keptie Hill has no shortage of grand houses built by the wealthy Fraser, Chapel, Webster and Corsar families.

I'm afraid the surname Herald means nothing to me. Is that her maiden or married name?

Frazer (with a Z) was her married name. But she was buried, with him, John Bruce, under her maiden name.

Sorry to have taken so long to get back to this!
