Yep I kinda agree with Dennis However its mostly for families with little kids so really dosent have to be too sophisticated Just something to amuse the bairns How about one of those log castles They can run and play around that for hours with each other...my boy used to love those things and they are putting them up in primary schools here now All wood so no rust and easily maintained too..they could license a spot to a hamburger/ice cream/toys wagon? not exactly Blackpool I know!! but better than a few rusty slides and no shop at all??

Now that's what I'm talking about, it doesn't have to cost a fortune, just gotta be visually and mentally stimulating, agree with Dennis on the tennis courts and the like, it doesn't have to be mechanical and high maintenance, my son used to play for ages on the concrete structures outside of what every woman wants in the overgate and the dragon on the main street Dundee, put him on the go carts at the links an he was bored to tears an that costs money,,,,,,,,,Bob

Dennis does have a valid point. Too may people think back with outdated rose tinted specs to the old attractions the town had.
We still have the beauty of the cliffs and beaches.

Regarding playparks, the town tore some down when H&S legislation started to go ovewrboard in the late 80's early 90's. Remember the "Monkey Poles" at timmergreens primary school? There were some cracking climbing frames at Annfield park and the one whose name i don't know between Arbirlot Road and Emmislaw Drive. My favourites as a child were the "boat" at Camperdown in Dundee and at Crombie. My parents had to drag us away!

Thanks for putting me right Derek..... I assummed that the promenade had been done in same time period....

I hope that the £5 million, promised by Angus Council (for promenade refurbishment), still goes ahead in the not to distant future.
Arbroath does have "natural" places of Beauty and Interest.. But an injection of Council Cash to upgrade coastal facilities for Tourists/Visitors is long overdue.... Businesses do help already!!!
I don't think a "private funding initiative" (Full or Partial) is possible within Arbroath.

I see in the herald today that the folk who own the Jumpin Joeys are installing a log play area and other general improvements

Good for them!!

I agree with comments by those who reckon Arbroath could do with a "Play Area".... or even several.... That would encourage visitors from near and far for day trips and longer holiday/vacation periods.... Council funded and free at point of use.. of course...
A great idea to achieve a greater interest in Arbroath!!!

I was a bit worried when I saw the grassy area around Jumpin' Joeys being fenced off - but it looks much better now the play equipment has been installed - good on them!! big grin

Has this council heard of a lick of paint? I say teh fences and equipment and that's all they need on the whole. Why haven't they kept up with maintenance? Common sense.

Nice to see the two tractors out today, clearing away the foul smelling seaweed. Looked like a big job but it wouldn't take long if it was done regularly.

the seaweeds been getting removed over the past few days so all the moving it etc is probably making the smell worse for the time being. Also, one of the climbing frames in the park at the links has been removed (to be replaced im assuming)
